The House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee rejected a bill in a 12-7 vote that would have let local school boards decide, after holding a public hearing, whether they want to establish gun-free school zones. A bill that would make it a felony for an illegal alien to possess a gun easily cleared the committee.
