Today, the Virginia General Assembly met in Richmond to approve or deny Governor Spanberger's proposed Amendments to the state budget.
On the final page of those amendments was a proposal to delay the enactment of SB727/HB1524 - legislation that severely restricts the ability to carry and transport many of the most popular firearms in the Commonwealth - until July 1st 2027, rather than this Wednesday, July 1st 2026.
Approving the amendment and accepting the delay is a clear indication that many Virginia Democrats have realized what freedom loving Virginians already knew - the policy was unconstitutional from the start and cannot reasonably be enforced. However, rather than eliminate it completely, Spanberger and anti-gun progressives decided to make it tomorrow's problem.
This amended language came just days after lawsuits challenging the "Assault Weapons" ban, including one backed by the NRA, were heard in court last week.
Make no mistake, for Democrats in Richmond this action was a ploy to buy legal time - not preserve your rights.
Actions on the Governor's budget amendments are the final step of Virginia's legislative process, closing out the 2026 session.
