Gun control supporters want to set up a national database requiring manufacturers to register ballistic "fingerprints" that weapons leave on bullets and shell casings. The gun industry and National Rifle Association insist the technology isn`t accurate enough and that the weapons can be modified to change these fingerprints. They fear it would be the start of a national gun registry system that could infringe on their Second Amendment right to bear arms.
