Al Gore`s loss in Arkansas may have cost him the White House, but Mike Hathorn (D) hopes he learned from Gore`s defeat in his bid to succeed ex-Rep. Asa Hutchinson (R). Hathorn, Gore`s Arkansas campaign director, says support for gun control cost Gore thousands of votes needed to carry that state as well as other Southern states. "The gun issue was the defining issue in Arkansas last year, but it won`t be in this race," Hathorn says. "I spoke with Clinton pretty soon after Gore lost Arkansas, and he agreed."
