New Mexico - Oppose Mayor Baca`s "Criminal Protection" Plan To Ban "Right To Carry"

Tuesday, August 21, 2001

On Monday, August 27th, the Finance & Government Operations Committee of the Albuquerque City Council will hold a hearing on Ordinance #108, anti-gun Mayor Jim Baca’s ordinance banning trained, law-abiding citizens who are issued licenses under New Mexico’s "Right To Carry" law from carrying concealed handguns for protection within city borders.

Even if you don’t reside within city limits, this proposal affects you or anyone else you know who may work in, travel through or occasionally visit the city. And if Albuquerque is successful in passing such a restriction, you can bet that more cities and counties in the state will quickly follow.

We must have a strong show of opposition to Ordinance #108 at Monday’s hearing. Help beat back this attempt to allow violent criminals to continue preying on honest citizens who would be denied the ability to protect themselves under state law:

Attend the Albuquerque City Council’s Finance & Government Operations Committee hearing on Monday, August 27, at 5:00 p.m. on the 9th floor of the City-County Building at One Civic Plaza NW in Albuquerque. Anyone wishing to speak against Ordinance #108 should sign up at the beginning of the meeting. If you need any information on "Right To Carry", please contact NRA-ILA’s Grassroots Division at 1-800-392-8683.

Call, fax and email ALL City Councillors and urge them to oppose any effort to deny trained, law-abiding residents of, or visitors to Albuquerque from protecting themselves in this legal, responsible manner. Contact information for City Councillors is provided below and members of the committee are indicated with an asterisk (*).
