Zachariah Coombes had always understood the company policy
forbidding 7-11 convenience store employees from carrying firearms
on duty. But when an armed robber ordered him into the freezer of
the Austin, Tex., store where he worked, Coombes decided he had a
choice between his job and his life. When the criminal briefly
looked over his shoulder, Coombes pulled a .25 cal. automatic and
opened up, killing the crook. As he expected, Coombes was fired
after the incident.
