On June 4th, Governor Whitmer re-established the Michigan Gun Violence Prevention Task Force via executive order at an event in Kalamazoo. The task force that was first established in 2024 and tasked with making recommendations to reduce gun violence in the state. They released their final report in April of 2025 with recommendations that are in direct conflict with the Second Amendment. The Governor extended the task force so that it could focus on finding ways to implement these recommendations. As the task force itself has no power to implement these recommendations on their own, any gun-control recommendations will need to pass the Legislature to gain the force of law. Please contact your legislator and tell them you do not support gun control, and ask that they oppose recommendations by the task force that are designed to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens or infringe on your 2A rights!
The Task Force's recommendations included requiring waiting periods for firearms purchases, raising the minimum purchase age to 21, banning so-called ghost guns, restricting magazine capacity, creating state inspections for FFLs, and allowing Firearm manufacturers to be held liable for third-party misuse. Several of the task force's recommendations have been introduced in the legislature, including Senate Bills 853 & 854, was previously reported.
