Vermont: Omnibus Gun Bills Looming As Session Nears End

Last week, Senate Democrats called an emergency meeting of the Rules Committee to suspend the rules in order to introduced S.329, an omnibus gun bill, to join H.606 which is currently pending before the Senate. 

Earlier in the session, H.606 was heavily amended to remove many of the problematic sections, which NRA has continued to actively oppose. S.329, is a step backwards, contemplating many of the previously removed sections and adding another significant policy change to vastly expand gun free zones in the state, by prohibiting the otherwise lawful carry of firearms in establishments that hold a liquor license. 

With the session rapidly coming to a close, these bills could be acted on at any time.

Please use the TAKE ACTION button below to contact your legislators in the House and Senate and respectfully urge them to OPPOSE S.329 and H.606.

H.606:

• Sections expanding the list of prohibited persons
• Bans on machine gun conversion devices
• Bans on "rapid fire devices"
• FFL and manufacturer liability under a public nuisance law that would have threatened the entire firearms industry in the state. *This section was previously amended out, however there are ongoing efforts by anti-gun legislators to re-insert this language. 

S.329: 

• Sections expanding the list of prohibited persons
• Bans on machine guns and machine gun conversion devices
• A complete ban on the carrying of firearms in all establishments that serve alcohol for consumption which would include bars, restaurants, and hotels.
