On Friday March 6th, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 499, ahead of the crossover deadline for bills to pass out of the chamber of origin. SB 499 now heads to the House for further consideration. Please use the Take Action button below to contact your legislators and urge them to SUPPORT SB 499.
SB 499 would remove firearm suppressors from the list of dangerous weapons and eliminate state-level penalties for possession, while keeping suppressors subject to strict federal regulation under the National Firearms Act.
The companion legislation, House Bill 1324, failed to receive the required majority vote of its total membership to pass the House floor and advance to the Senate. The bill required 91 votes (a majority of the 180 seats) but received only 87 favorable votes.
NRA-ILA will continue to monitor this legislation and keep Georgia gun owners informed of further developments affecting their Second Amendment rights.
