As we swiftly approach the legislative crossover deadline in Virginia, radical anti-gun legislators continue to push policies targeting law-abiding gun owners. This week, the House Finance committee combined the provisions of two firearms and ammunition excise tax bills into House Bill 919 and have advanced it to the full House of Delegates. Please contact your Delegate NOW and urge them to OPPOSE HB 919 when it arrives on the floor by using the TAKE ACTION button below.
House Bill 919, the House companion bill for SB 763, imposes an 11% excise tax on the sale of all firearms and ammunition "by a dealer in firearms, firearms manufacturer, or ammunition vendor," and designates all funding from the tax go into a so-called "Virginia Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention Fund." As amended, it now includes the provisions from HB 1094 to impose a separate and additional 11% excise tax on all firearms and ammunition sales for general state funds.
Though the legislature continues to advance so many radical policies against lawful gun owners, your advocacy has and will continue to make a difference. House Bill 207, which creates a $500 tax on suppressors, has been tabled in committee and is not expected to return before the crossover deadline. This is thanks to your advocacy, and your words have not fallen on deaf ears. As Second Amendment advocates and citizens of the Commonwealth, it is our responsibility to remain engaged and continue to inform our legislators how these policies will have critical negative impacts on law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to address crime.
The legislative crossover deadline is only days away, and the 2026 legislative session adjourns just a few weeks after. Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates.
