Michigan: Support Legislation to Expand and Restore Second Amendment Rights

On Wednesday, the Michigan House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on four critical pro-gun bills designed to: lower the age to carry a concealed pistol to 18 years and old, allow eligible individuals to petition the courts to remove unnecessary disabilities on their firearm rights, extend the CPL application period to account for administrative errors, and enable residents to apply for a concealed pistol license in any county across the state. Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact committee members and urge them to SUPPORT these measures that enhance self-defense rights and ensure fair access to the concealed carry process.

House Bill 4586 lowers the minimum age to carry a concealed pistol to 18, empowering responsible young adults to exercise their Second Amendment rights. This legislation aligns Michigan with other states that recognize the maturity and responsibility of lawful adults in self-defense situations.

House Bill 4587 allows eligible individuals to petition the court to expunge disabilities that prevent them from exercising their firearm rights. By restoring rights if the petitioner’s circumstances have changed , this bill ensures that law-abiding citizens are not permanently barred from self-defense.

House Bill 5113 creates a 21-day extension for CPL applications in cases of administrative errors, preventing applicants from being penalized for administrative errors. This reform ensures a fair and efficient process for law-abiding citizens seeking to maintain or obtain their concealed pistol licenses.

House Bill 4980 allows Michiganders to file for a CPL in any county in the state, reducing unnecessary travel and administrative obstacles. By modernizing the CPL application process, this bill helps responsible citizens access their lawful rights more easily.

Stay tuned to NRA-ILA Alerts for the latest updates on these bills and other legislation affecting your Second Amendment rights
