Virginia: Fairfax City Council Postpones Vote on Gun Control Ordinance Until September

Virginia: Fairfax City Council Postpones Vote on Gun Control Ordinance Until September

At the July 8th Fairfax City Council meeting, Council decided to postpone the vote on the proposed gun control ordinance until the meeting in September. This proposed ordinance would expand "gun free" zones and increase the penalties associated with carrying in the prescribed zones. It does not include an exemption for concealed handgun permit holders.

This is great news as law-abiding gun owners now have more time to reach out to City Council members and the Mayor in opposition to the expansion of gun free zones! Please click the “Take Action” button below to contact City Council and the Mayor.

The proposed amendments to the existing ordinance would prohibit firearms at the following places: (1) city permitted events, as well as those events that would otherwise require a city permit (which includes events permitted by an authority or local government entity created or controlled by the city in whole or in part); and (2) parks controlled by a park authority that was created or controlled by the City in conjunction with one or more other localities.  Further, it would increase the penalty for violations of the ordinance from a Class 4 misdemeanor to a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for further information on the Fairfax City Council gun control ordinance.
