Maine: Lawmakers, NRA, and State Gun Rights Group Demand Red Flag Hearing

On Monday, June 2nd, Maine lawmakers held a press conference with representatives from the NRA, Gun Owners of Maine, and the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine to call on the Senate President and Speaker of the House to hold a public hearing on the Red Flag ballot question. Under Maine law, all ballot initiatives are required to undergo a public hearing. However, Senator Anne Carney, the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, has blocked such requests from her fellow lawmakers in an attempt to silence citizens who are critical of this extreme gun control proposal. This tactic should come as no surprise, as Senator Carney has utilized a litany of underhanded tactics to advance the gun control agenda, including blocking votes on a repeal of Maine's waiting period law and silencing expert testimony from pro-gun speakers.

NRA-ILA Executive Director John Commerford issued the following statement regarding Senator Carney's brazen disregard for Maine law:

"In blatant disregard for state law, gun control politicians in Augusta are refusing to hold a statutorily mandated public hearing that would expose the extreme dangers of their radical 'red flag' ballot referendum. The NRA and its members are proud to stand with the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine and Gun Owners of Maine to defend the rights of law-abiding Mainers and ensure gun owners in the Pine Tree State have their voices heard."

Maine citizens have the right to be heard. Speak up now by clicking the TAKE ACTION button below to contact lawmakers and urge them to hold a public hearing on Michael Bloomberg's dangerous Red Flag referendum.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website for updates.
