The Michigan Senate Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee could hold hearings on Senate Bills 225 and 226 as early as next week. These bills propose new restrictions on where citizens can carry firearms. Please contact members of the Committee using the Take Action button and respectfully urge them to oppose SB 225 and SB 226.
Senate Bill 225 and Senate Bill 226 expand "gun-free zones" in Michigan by prohibiting gun owners from carrying firearms in the Michigan State Capitol Building, the Binsfeld Senate Office Building, and the Anderson House Office Building. While these bills disarm law-abiding citizens visiting these buildings, they allow lawmakers to maintain their Second Amendment rights by exempting them from such restrictions.
In recent years, the Michigan State Capitol Commission has banned the open and concealed carry of firearms in the Capitol, and anti-gun politicians created a rule that restricted citizens' rights to carry in legislative office buildings. If passed, this legislation would expand and codify those restrictions into state law.
