Virginia: Hunting Regulations Need Your Support

Recently, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) proposed several changes to hunting regulations that would benefit gun owners and Second Amendment supporters. The proposals provide beneficial changes supporting your right to self-defense while engaged in outdoor activities on DWR properties and in state and national forests in Virginia

DWR is currently accepting comments on these regulations until May 9th! Please click the “Take Action” button below to send DWR your SUPPORT for these regulations!

If implemented, the following regulations will take effect on August 1, 2025:

4VAC15-90-80 allows for muzzleloading rifles that have more than one barrel.

4VAC15-40-60 repeals the current regulation and therefore allows for the possession and carrying of firearms while hunting with dogs.

4VAC15-40-61 sets the period during which hunting and trapping may occur on national and state forest land and DWR owned and managed lands.

4VAC15-40-62 defines where and when guns can be discharged.

4VAC15-40-70 allows for the possession and carrying of firearm, but not the discharge of one, while training dogs.

4VAC15-210-10 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, in chasing or taking a racoon.

4VAC15-70-60 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, while hunting any game species with a bow and arrow, crossbow, or slingbow, during the special archery season.

4VAC15-240-60 allows for the possession and carrying of a firearm, but not its use, while hunting with archery equipment or a slingbow during the special archery season.

Please stay tuned to the NRA-ILA website and your inbox for updates on these regulations.
