Today, March 4th, the Florida Legislature begins the 2025 legislative session. This year, the legislature has introduced a number of both pro-gun bills and anti-gun bills. The NRA is on the ground in Tallahassee, working to further our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage.
This year, NRA's priority bills include restoring the ability for young adults to purchase firearms and protecting our Second Amendment rights during local emergencies. Below find a description of the legislation already filed on these priorities:
Senate Bill 94, Senate Bill 920, Senate Bill 1716, & House Bill 759 restores the ability for young adults to acquire firearms by lowering the minimum age requirement to purchase from 21 to 18. Since 2018, the NRA has been litigating against the state, challenging Florida’s ban on transferring firearms to young adults.
Senate Bill 952 & House Bill 6025 repeal automatic prohibitions that violate Floridians’ Second Amendment rights during a public disorder state of local emergency. The following acts are automatic prohibitions that this legislation would repeal: the intentional possession of a firearm in public, the sale of any ammunition or firearms, and the intentional display of ammunition or firearms in a store.
Your NRA-ILA will be monitoring these bills and reporting if, and when, any are set for committee hearings in the Florida House or Senate. In the meantime, contact your state lawmakers and urge them to SUPPORT these Pro-gun bills!
