DNC Goes All-In on Gun Control

A couple weeks ago, we wrote about anti-gun activist David Hogg campaigning to be a Vice Chair for the Democratic National Committee (DNC).  We (somewhat) jokingly endorsed his candidacy, as it would make abundantly clear that Democrats in national leadership positions are all virulently opposed to the Second Amendment.  What better way of telling voters your party does not care about the rights of law-abiding gun owners than putting one of the most vocal anti-gun extremists in a position of power?

Well, they did it!

On Feb. 1, Hogg was elected to serve as one of three DNC Vice Chairs, each of whom will be directly involved in trying to elect Democrat candidates across the country.  The primary “expertise” brought to the process by this young man will be his virulent hatred of the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Granted, he was also once linked to a start-up pillow company before abandoning that venture, although it is unclear how such an experience will contribute to his new role with the DNC.  He did also help start an organization “dedicated to electing young progressives to Congress and State Legislatures across the country.”  In its only election cycle under Hogg’s “leadership,” eight of the 15 candidates receiving support from the group lost at the polls.

Delivering a less-than-50% win rate at the DNC is probably not what the party leadership is hoping for.

They may also not be hoping for what Hogg is probably most famous for delivering—extremist rhetoric that will only serve to further alienate Democrats that are not positioned on the radically far left side of the political spectrum.  He has a storied history of social media outbursts that are, to say the least, questionable to many, if not most, Americans.

Included among those outbursts is the claim, “The NRA needs to be designated a terrorist organization,” and openly admitting, “I’m one of the most politically toxic people in the country and I’m too radical for American politics.”

He also had the unmitigated hubris to imply that he knows more about the Second Amendment than the Supreme Court.  Then there is the seemingly never-ending list of bogeymen Hogg believes to be responsible for violent crime involving firearms; including “white woman (sic)” who vote for Republicans.

And for someone who has manufactured the façade of being an expert on addressing violent crime that involves firearms, his “solutions” often exhibit a remarkable lack of knowledge about existing laws.

So, this is the guy the DNC chose to revive the party so that it can better compete with Republicans?  Good luck with that!

But not all Democrats are pleased with the election of Hogg.  Some are conceding he is a “horrible choice.”  One anonymous Democrat strategist went so far as to say the new Vice Chair “can do more harm than good.”

We keep trying to emphasize the fact that the Second Amendment should not be a partisan issue.  It enshrines in our nation’s primary founding document, the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms; both for the protection of themselves and their loved ones, and for the common defense.  In today’s political climate, it just so happens that far more elected Republicans share this viewpoint than do elected Democrats.

We wish that were not the case, but we recognize the unfortunate political reality that people like David Hogg have fashioned.

Hogg has made it clear that he believes there is no individual right to own a firearm; in spite of the mountain of scholarly research and judicial rulings—including from our nation’s highest court—that prove David wrong.

Now, with the DNC elevating Hogg to one of the highest positions of power in that organization, it seems clear that the elite Democrat leadership have no qualms about adopting the no-right-to-arms viewpoint.

If they wish to ignore the fact that Democrats own guns, too—and at rapidly increasing numbers over the last several years—they do so at their own peril.  The party seems to be in at least slight decline as of late, and this move could see that decline escalate.

If that is their goal, again, good luck with that!
