Next week, two separate House committees will be hearing and voting on anti-gun bills that previously passed the Senate.
On Wednesday, March 27th, SB 0488 will be heard by the House Judiciary Committee. This legislation creates the "Gun Industry Accountability Act of 2024," which seeks to undermine the PLCAA and potentially subject firearm industry members to frivolous lawsuits. This in turn could bankrupt local firearm industry members or massively inflate business costs in such a fashion that it severely limits opportunities for Marylanders to lawfully purchase firearms, ammunition, and components.

On Thursday, March 28, the House Ways and Means Committee will be hearing SB 0784 that will impose a 5% excise tax on the purchase of firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition. This 5% increase is in addition to the preexisting 6% state sales tax, 11% federal excise tax, levied through Pitman Robertson, and a variety of other state and local taxes and fees. This tax is nothing more than a punitive measure to discourage firearm ownership and increase the cost to exercise your Constitutional rights.
