On Wednesday, April 21, and Thursday, April 22, the House Rules Committee is scheduled to consider anti-gun legislation, Senate Bill 554. Public comments will be heard both days, with a possible vote by the Committee on Thursday. Please contact committee members and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 554.
Senate Bill 554 abolishes Oregon's state firearms preemption statute by allowing local governments and schools to restrict the lawful carry of firearms on the premises by CHL holders. Current law ensures that those living and traveling throughout Oregon are subject to uniform state statutes wherever they are. SB 554 would lead to an inconsistent patchwork of firearms laws across the state, causing law abiding gun owners to become FELONS subject to firearms forfeiture. This measure would create arbitrary boundaries with differing gun laws across cities, counties, metropolitan service districts, port operating commercial airports, school districts, and colleges or universities.
This legislation has been tried year after year, as anti-gun legislators attempt to pass a measure that strips rights from law-abiding gun owners who only want to defend themselves equally across the Beaver State. Crime does not stop when you approach or enter a public building or cross district lines. NRA Members are encouraged to remain active and vigilant. You can register to provide verbal testimony at the public hearings, here.
Again, please contact members of the House Rules Committee and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 554.
