Earlier this year, a group of retired federal-law-enforcement officers sued the state of New Jersey for not honoring their right to carry under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. The state quickly sought to dismiss the lawsuit. The NRA and the Association of New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs petitioned the court to file an amicus brief in support of the officers. The U.S. Department of Justice also filed a statement of interest in support of the officers.
Faced with all that opposition, New Jersey did an about face and withdrew its request to dismiss the case. This means that the officers’ suit against the state will continue.
