New Mexico: Senate Committee Scheduled to Consider “Red Flag” Legislation Tomorrow

Tomorrow at 1:30pm in Room 321, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to consider another gun control bill, House Bill 83.  This is the last time for you to testify on this legislation! It is extremely important that NRA Members and Second amendment supporters voice their strong opposition to this terrible assault on your rights.  Please contact committee members and urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 83 when it comes up for a vote.

House Bill 83: Extreme risk firearm protection order or "red flag" legislation sponsored by Representative Daymon Ely, would authorize the seizure of firearms and ammunition from individuals without due process. Unchallenged statements made by a petitioner before a judge, alleging that someone is a danger to themselves or others in an ex parte proceeding -- prior to any formal court hearing at which the respondent can be represented by counsel and present counter evidence -- would be sufficient for law enforcement to enter that person's home and confiscate their private property.

Again, this legislation seeks to create an avenue by which an individual can have their Second Amendment rights removed without due process of law.  Please contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and urge them to OPPOSE House Bill 83 when it comes up for a vote.
