Fairfax, Va.— The National Rifle Association will award Georgia State Representative John Meadows the Defender of Freedom Award at a ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol Building on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
John Meadows, known as the Father of the Second Amendment bills in the Georgia House of Representatives, is one of Georgia’s strongest defenders of our gun rights,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action. “For more than a decade, Meadows has fought for the rights of law-abiding Georgians to protect themselves.
The Defender of Freedom Award is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves in preserving and protecting our Second Amendment rights.
“On behalf of the NRA’s five million members, I thank Representative Meadows for his work to ensure that our Second Amendment freedoms are a priority in the Georgia legislature,” concluded Cox.
Currently serving as Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Meadows was elected to the House in 2005 after serving as Mayor of Calhoun for many years. From his earliest days in the House, Meadows has been instrumental in passing legislation to protect and promote the Second Amendment.
