Police say a man is recovering in the hospital after he allegedly broke into a Hampton residence and was subsequently shot by the homeowner.
Police were called to the 1st block of Kilverstone Way shortly before 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, officers found a 22-year-old Newport News man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators say the man had forced his way into the home and began rummaging throughout the residence. The homeowner, who was armed with a gun, was awakened by the alarm and responded to the area in question.
