California: Briefing Completed in Request for Supreme Court Review of Peruta Carry Case

On March 7, 2017, the NRA and CPRA, along with the other plaintiffs in the case, filed its reply brief in support of the petition for the Supreme Court to review Peruta v. California, which seeks to confirm that the Second Amendment protects the right to carry a firearm for self-defense.  The brief follows a number of critical amicus curiae briefs that were filed in support of the petition, and concludes the briefing in support of the request for Supreme Court review.   Our initial request of the review on this case was filed on January 12, 2017.

The briefs are now being circulated to and reviewed by the Justices and their respective clerks. The Supreme Court could begin considering whether to accept the Peruta case during the Court’s conference on March 24, although consideration of whether to accept the case could be held over for multiple conferences.
