Last week, two pro-gun bills, House Bill 1169 and House Bill 1310, passed committee and are now headed to the House floor for consideration by the full House of Representatives. HB 1169 would eliminate the requirement to obtain a permit in order to lawfully carry. This bill recognizes a law-abiding adult’s unconditional Right to Keep and Bear Arms for self-defense in the manner he or she chooses. HB 1169 will make the current permitting system optional to allow citizens to obtain permits and take advantage of reciprocity agreements with other states.
HB 1310 would allow individuals who possess a valid concealed weapons license to carry on school property under certain circumstances. Self-defense is a fundamental right of every person. The basic function of the Second Amendment is to protect the ability of law-abiding people to fight back effectively against those who would wrongfully deprive us of life and liberty. That right does not end at any arbitrary boundary.
