Today, the Legislature convened to swear in the new members for the 2017 – 2018 session. This is the first glimpse at the Legislature before they reconvene on January 4, 2017, with anti-gun legislators holding a super-majority in both legislative chambers.
Governor Brown appointed NRA-PVF "F-rated" U.S. Representative Xavier Becerra, as interim Attorney General, whom we expect to be confirmed by the state Legislature. This will be another challenging year, but we will be standing strong with gun owners and sportsmen across California.
Your NRA will continue to fight and work to preserve your Second Amendment rights in California. We are currently working on legal challenges against the anti-gun bills signed into law from gunmageddon and Prop 63, along with preparing for the 2017 legislative session.
As a friendly reminder, firearms that will now be considered “assault weapons” under the new laws must be purchased and received by December 31, 2016. With California’s 10-day waiting period, the DROS process must be started no later than December 21st. Please read our previous alert for more details.
