A man attempted to break into a home occupied by 88-year-old Bertha Tate and her son, Anthony, in Chicago, Ill. As the man was trying to get in through a window, Anthony retrieved a .22-caliber revolver and shot the home invader. After meeting armed resistance, the intruder immediately fled to a waiting getaway car. The intruder eventually made his way to an area hospital; he is expected to survive.
More than 50 years earlier, Tate’s husband, and Anthony’s father, was killed during a home invasion. Tate told a local media outlet that she has kept a gun for self-defense since that incident. (WLS, Chicago, Ill. 03/24/16)
