Right-to-Carry permit holder interrupts shooting spree in Georgia liquor store, WSMV, Nashville, Tenn. 06/01/15, WSB-TV, Atlanta, Ga. 06/02/15

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

A man who a day earlier had been caught stealing from Magnet Package Store in Rockdale County, Ga. returned to the store with a gun and began firing. The attacker shot and killed the store owner and a customer. However, Right-to-Carry permit holder Todd Scott was inside the store during the attack, drew his firearm and fired at the criminal. The armed citizen’s gunfire prompted the shooter to flee.

After being driven out of the liquor store, the crazed gunman returned home, where he killed his parents before being shot to death in a gun battle with police.

Recalling the incident in an interview with local television station WSB-TV, Scott said, “At that moment I said if this guy's capable of this, he's capable of just taking care of everybody in here. So I just stood straight up and started firing.” Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett said of Scott and the shooting, “It didn't appear he cared who he shot and where he was shooting until someone was shooting back at him… I consider [Scott] to be a hero, because although we did have a fatality at that location, he did save some other lives that were inside that business.” Scott went on to add, “I'm not a hero. Just did what I think I should have done. I hope I saved some lives… I definitely wasn't going to lie on that floor and take it. Not with a gun in my hand.” (WSMV, Nashville, Tenn. 06/01/15, WSB-TV, Atlanta, Ga. 06/02/15)
