Standing Guard | Your Ammo Is Next On Obama’s List

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

President Barack Obama is setting the table to ban your ammunition—all of it.

Don’t be fooled by the administration’s recent decision to back off from its proposed ban on common rifle ammunition. Even their own words—“at this time”—leave no doubt that their scheme to ban even more ammunition will be back.

Already, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Director Todd Jones has suggested that “any 5.56 round”—not just the M855 version—should be banned.

Even now, congressional Democrats are urging the president to move “swiftly” on the ban.

We know they’re coming back and we must, and will, be ready.

Since the last election, I’ve been warning NRA members and gun owners all over America that the remaining two years of Obama’s term pose the greatest threat ever to the Second Amendment and our freedom.

As the president becomes more and more desperate to make his mark on history, he will become more and more aggressive in attacking the rights of lawful gun owners. His effort to ban AR-15 ammunition proves both his desperation and his aggressiveness. As beloved as it is to American shooters, hunters and sportsmen, the AR-15 is hated by the president and the anti-gun cronies that fill his administration.

As you know, the AR-15 is the most popular rifle in America. As beloved as it is to American shooters, hunters and sportsmen, the AR-15 is hated by the president and the anti-gun cronies that fill his administration.

They’ve tried to ban guns, to ban magazines and to register firearm owners through their bizarre so-called “universal” background check scheme. Those efforts all failed, thanks to the active vigilance of NRA members and the courage of a majority of members of Congress to block those efforts.

But as long as Obama and his minions control the federal government, they will move forward with their campaign to force gun control—any gun control they can conjure—by executive fiat and dictatorial regulation.

Why is the president pushing this ammo ban so hard?

Because if he can set a precedent by banning AR-15 ammunition, he is well on his way to banning any and all the ammo his anti-freedom heart desires. Simply put, if he can ban one type of ammunition, he can ban them all.

And if he could, he would. By any means of misinformation and deception it takes.

Even now, the president’s bureaucrats at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are partnering with private enviro-radicals to ban lead projectiles—including all hunting bullets—as hazardous. If lead ammo were banned, hunters and shooters would be forced to replace it with lead-free ammo to appease environmental radicals, who then turn around and call bullets with a copper core “armor-piercing.”

On one hand, the president wants to twist a 30-year-old law to ban AR-15 ammo … while on the other hand, his administration is supporting efforts to ban all lead ammunition.

In two fatal turns of events, Obama’s dream of banning all ammunition could become the very real nightmare of every single gun owner in the country.

For gun owners and Americans who believe in the sanctity of the Second Amendment and treasure our individual freedom, the final months of the Obama presidency are dangerous times.

We must be ever vigilant and active—right now—to protect all the freedoms we care so much about.

I know that during the past few weeks, thousands of you called your elected representatives in Washington, D.C.

I know that tens of thousands of you wrote and sent letters and emails, urging your congressmen and senators to oppose the Obama ammo ban.

Do it again. We are the only force in America to stand between our freedom and a president who wants to destroy it ... forever.

Keep calling, and writing, and emailing—and urge every gun owner you know to do the same.

Urge them to join and renew and upgrade their membership in the NRA. Supporting the NRA is how gun owners raise their collective voices—together, as one—to fight for our freedom and defend our rights.

We are the only force in America to stand between our freedom and a president who wants to destroy it—by any means possible—forever.

Together, we have defeated all the gun bans and registration schemes Obama could muster. But in the final months of his presidency, with the Obama legacy on the line, our freedom faces its greatest threat.

Stay active. Keep alert. Support the NRA.

Together, we will defend our ammunition, preserve our Second Amendment rights and save our freedom.

Executive Vice President, NRA

Since 1991, Wayne LaPierre has led the NRA through a period of unprecedented membership growth and political clout in defense of our Second Amendment rights. And that strength has been put to the good benefit of NRA members and gun owners. In large part because of Wayne's leadership, Right-to-Carry is now the law in 41 states. All 50 states have enacted laws to protect shooting ranges, and all 50 passed legislation to protect hunters from harassment.
