South Carolina: City of Tega Cay Amending Discharge Ordinance

Thursday, July 17, 2014

Tega Cay is in the process of amending its current ordinance that imposes unnecessary restrictions on the discharge of firearms within the city limits.  While this proposed amendment makes a slight improvement to what is currently on the books, it does not go far enough.  The NRA has communicated its concerns to the Tega Cay City Council and is awaiting a response.  In the meantime, please use the contact information provided below to call and e-mail City Councilmembers and urge them to accept the NRA’s proposed language.

In addition, the next regular monthly City Council meeting will be held on Monday, July 21 when this issue is likely to be discussed.  The City Council may even vote on the proposed amendment to its discharge ordinance.  Please attend this meeting and urge the City Council to reject the current proposed discharge ordinance amendments and to work with the NRA on language that would better ensure a balance is struck that both addresses safety concerns and respects our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, especially for personal protection.  The next City Council meeting is scheduled to be held on Monday, July 21 from 6:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 15077 Molokai Drive in Tega Cay.
