The Fish and Wildlife Service has released a plan to guide management of the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge for the next 15 years. The 11,000-acre Refuge is located primarily in southwest Idaho, but includes a small portion within eastern Oregon.
The plan presents 4 management options for the refuge, all of which include the continuation of deer, upland game and waterfowl hunting on over 1,200 acres, including a youth waterfowl hunt.
If you enjoy hunting or other recreation on this Refuge, please take time to review the Alternatives and provide comments to the Service. Alternative 3, for example, would eliminate horseback riding and dog walking and segregate high-speed boating from hunting, fishing and other wildlife-dependent users. However, the no-wake zone would increase the amount of time it would take users to reach high-quality wildlife areas.
