APPEARS IN Legal & Legislation

Gun Control Hearings Continue Through the Evening in Maryland

Friday, March 1, 2013

Thousands of Second Amendment Supporters Show Up to Testify!

Right now in Annapolis, members of the House Judiciary and Health and Government Operations Committees are listening to the testimony of the thousands of Marylanders who came to Annapolis to tell their elected officials that they do not support Governor O’Malley’s attack on their Second Amendment rights.

The planned anti-gun rally was very poorly attended, with a small group of protesters outside the State House - while the House of Delegates Office Building was filled with Second Amendment supporters!  In a repeat of the success of the Senate hearing turnout, the fire marshal was once again forced to close the building due to crowds as the building reached capacity.

Thank you to everyone who attended the hearings today, and who signed up to testify on this critical piece of legislation!

Please continue to contact your legislators to urge them to oppose House Bill 294 when it comes up for a vote.  The vote on this bill could take place at any time following today’s hearing, so it is critical that you call your delegate TODAY. While it may be easier for legislators to ignore or delete e-mails, they cannot ignore your telephone calls. Urge them to oppose HB 294, as well as any anti-gun legislation that hinders a law-abiding citizen’s right to self-defense.

Additionally, please attend the Second Amendment Freedom Rally next Tuesday, March 5, in Annapolis. State lawmakers and citizens alike will be speaking at this rally and NRA Grassroots staff will be in attendance.  Plan to attend and take this opportunity to learn how you can join the NRA and other Second Amendment supporters in staying involved.

It is also very important that you sign up to testify before noon for the House Judiciary Committee hearings on additional firearm-related legislation which at this time is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. The Committee schedule can be viewed here.

March 5 Second Amendment Freedom Rally

Lawyer’s Mall - Across from the State House at 100 State Circle in Annapolis

Please arrive by 10:30 a.m. • Program and speakers begin at 11:00 a.m.

Also, the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee has moved its hearing date of additional firearm-related legislation from the original March 5 date to Wednesday, March 6. Please attend all hearings if possible and continue to voice your opposition to any anti-gun legislation that seeks to limit your right to self-defense. Information on how to testify for this hearing can be found here.

Contact information for your state legislators can be found here

Lawmakers need to know how many law-abiding citizens in Maryland oppose their attempts to take away their rights! Do not let lawmakers attempt to legislate away your rights without making your voice heard.
