The 28th Alaska Legislature convened on January 15, and the NRA is pleased to report the introduction of two important pro-gun bills.
Sponsored by state Representative Mark Neuman (R-10) and six other state representatives, House Bill 24 is essential self-defense legislation. This bill would provide that a law-abiding person, who is justified in using deadly force in self-defense, has “no duty-to-retreat” from an attack if the person is in any place that that person has a legal right to be. HB 24 has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee. No hearing has been scheduled at this time, but NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated.
House Bill 55, sponsored by state Representative Bob Lynn (R-23) and three other state representatives, would allow school districts and private schools to adopt a policy authorizing one or more permanent employees to possess one or more firearms on school grounds under certain conditions. This bill simply empowers the law-abiding to create a solid line of defense against any violent predator who seeks to harm children while they are in school. HB 55 has been referred to the House Education Committee. While no hearing has been scheduled at this time, we will keep you updated.
