Planning Process Underway for James River National Wildlife Refuge

Friday, September 7, 2012

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has begun the process of developing a plan to guide the management of the James River National Wildlife Refuge for the next 15 years.

The 4,324-acre refuge is located in Prince George County and was established in 1991 as a nationally significant nesting and roosting habitat for the bald eagle.  White-tailed deer hunting is allowed on the refuge by permit.

The refuge is hosting an open house on September 12th so that the public can offer its views on issues, concerns, and opportunities that should be considered in the development of the plan.  We encourage all NRA hunter-members who can, to take time to attend one of the two sessions or to send comments encouraging the Fish and Wildlife Service to keep hunting a core public value for this refuge.

Meeting Details:

Prince George County Human Services Building
6400 Administration Drive, Building #12
Prince George, VA 23875
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
2:00 - 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Written comments are invited and can be emailed to [email protected].  For further information you may contact Meghan Carfioli, Natural Resource Planner, at (804) 829-5413 or [email protected].
