Tennessee: Senate Bill 399, Handgun Carry by University Faculty and Staff, Referred to Subcommittee

Senate Bill 399, which was scheduled to be heard by the Tennessee Senate Judiciary Committee on May 4, has since been assigned to the General Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Sponsored by state Senator Stacey Campfield (R-7), SB 399 would allow all full-time college and university faculty and staff with a Handgun Carry Permit to carry handguns on campus.

Also, House Bill 2016, the companion bill to SB 399, was expected to be heard by the House Judiciary Committee on May 3. HB 2016 has been held in the House Judiciary Committee for summer study. Sponsored by state Representative Andy Holt (R-76), HB 2016 passed in the state House Judiciary Subcommittee on April 13 by a 4 to 1 vote.
