NRA-PVF Endorses Rob Portman for U.S. Senate in Ohio

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Fairfax, Va. -- The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Rob Portman (R-Ohio) for U.S. Senate this November.

“Rob Portman is the gun owners’ and hunters’ choice in this race,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “He is a solid defender of the Second Amendment and his record proves he will stand up for the rights of gun owners in Ohio and across the United States, earning him the NRA-PVF endorsement.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the NRA Political Victory Fund,” said Rob Portman. “Our 2nd Amendment rights are under attack by forces in Washington that want to limit our Constitutional rights. I will continue fighting to protect and strengthen the rights of gun owners.”

A gun owner and sportsman, Rob Portman also has an outstanding record of supporting gun rights when he served in the U.S House of Representatives. During his time in Congress, Rob Portman voted for the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act to repeal the D.C. gun ban and restore gun rights to residents of our nation’s capital; he cosponsored and voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act preventing attempts to bankrupt the American gun industry through bogus lawsuits; and in 1999 he voted against legislation to regulate gun shows out of business. Portman also voted against the Clinton semi-automatic firearms ban in 1994 and for its repeal in 1996, and in 1993 he voted against the Brady bill to impose a national waiting period.

Rob Portman’s unwavering record in Congress and commitment to preserving our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage has earned him an “A” rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF.

“Rob Portman is the clear choice to represent Ohio hunters and gun owners,” Cox concluded. “We ask all Ohio gun owners and hunters to vote Rob Portman for U.S. Senate this November 2nd.”
