While the McDonald decision will have the greatest immediate impact in Chicago and Oak Park, both of which had outright bans on handgun ownership, we believe it also should mark the beginning of a new tenor in the gun regulation debate at the state level. For years, the handgun ban in Chicago effectively set the tone for firearm issues in the state. This has been especially true regarding Illinois' prohibition on carrying of concealed firearms for self defense.
