After scoping out a 74-year-old man taking money out of an ATM, criminal Lee Andrew Johnson followed the man to his Manatee, Fla. home. Johnson broke into the man’s home, made his way to the bedroom and began attacking the elderly man. Johnson then picked up a rifle, which was by the bed, and tried to shoot the homeowner. The rifle’s safety was on and Johnson could not operate it, so he put it down and then began to go through the bedroom closet. The elderly man picked up the rifle and shot Johnson twice, killing him. The police have been supportive of the elderly homeowner’s actions, with Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dave Bristow stating, “He was certainly within his rights to do what he did… Even if he had not been in his home, when someone is trying to beat you and shoot you, people have the right to defend themselves.”
