A retired member of the military was taking a shower in his home in Harris County, Texas when he heard a loud noise. The homeowner exited the shower, retrieved a gun and saw a burglar entering the house through a broken window. The homeowner fired at the criminal, striking him in the face and causing him to flee. The wounded burglar was caught by police a few miles away and taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to the Harris County Sherriff’s Office, there have been 50 reported burglaries since the beginning of the year in the neighborhood where the shooting took place. Neighbors are fed up with the rash of crimes and support the armed citizen’s actions, with one stating, “The homeowner has that right to protect himself, his life as well as his property.” The Harris County Sherriff’s office concurs; Lt. Jeff Stauber stated, “As a homeowner you have a right to protect yourself.”
