LB 817, a preemption clean-up bill, was passed unanimously yesterday on its final reading. The bill proceeds to Governor Dave Heineman’s (R) desk for his consideration.
LB 817 would specifically prohibit cities, counties, and any other municipalities from passing any sort of ordinance relating to registration of handguns for concealed carry permit holders. The underlying bill for LB 817 was authored by State Senator Kent Rogert (16) and prioritized by State Senator Tony Fulton (29). The amendment to adopt the language specifically prohibiting registration was offered by State Senator Mark Christensen (44).
