On Wednesday, June 25, Governor Bobby Jindal (R) signed NRA-backed Senate Bill 51, which was sponsored by State Senator Joe McPherson (D-Woodworth).
The House passed SB51 last Friday with a vote of 66-35. SB51 affirms the rights of law-abiding Louisianans to transport and store firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles, and prohibits property owners, tenants, public or private employers, and businesses from infringing on this right in their parking areas. Late Friday afternoon, the Senate unanimously agreed to House amendments clarifying immunity and liability provisions for businesses.
The signing of SB51 provides all law-abiding Louisianans the protection under the law to defend themselves at work or in public.
Thank you to all NRA members and the pro-gun community for the thousands of emails and phone calls that were made in support of this bill.
We would also like to thank Governor Jindal for taking a stand in the protection of our Second Amendment rights.
