In July 2005, the city council in Columbus, Ohio, abruptly decided to ban the ownership of semi-automatic firearms by law-abiding residents of that city. Until the ban was passed, the National Rifle Association had been planning to conduct its 2007 annual convention in Columbus. But Columbus` decision led to the NRA deciding not to go there. Columbus` loss, however, would be St. Louis` gain.
