Just prior to adjourning for a ten-day break on Thursday, March 15, the Missouri Senate voted 30-4 to pass Senate Bill 257, sponsored by Senator Kevin Engler (R-3). SB257, also referred to as the “Missouri Disaster Recovery Protection Act,” will protect your Second Amendment rights during an emergency or disaster. The House of Representatives, upon reconvening on Monday, March 26, will also consider this critically important legislation.
In addition to SB257, the House will soon resume work on three more pro-gun measures: House Bill 462, sponsored by Representative Brian Munzlinger (R-1); House Bill 845, sponsored by Representative Bob Dixon (R-140); and Senate Bill 62, sponsored by Senator Jack Goodman (R-29). HB462 will repeal Missouri’s outdated and redundant “permit to acquire” statute. HB845 provides that non-registered voters who obtain a hunting license or fishing permit will be provided with voter registration information from the Secretary of State’s Office. SB62 establishes that law-abiding Missourians do not have a duty to retreat from an attacker, and may meet force with force to defend themselves and their loved ones.
