Kansas Self-Defense Legislation Signed By Governor Sebelius!

Friday, May 26, 2006

On Friday, May 19, Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) signed Senate Bill 366, the “Castle Doctrine,” legislation into law.

SB 366, sponsored by Senator Mike Petersen (R-28), helps Kansans in three important ways: (1) you have the right to meet force with force to protect yourself and family members in locations where you have a legal right to be; (2) a “duty to retreat” would no longer exist in locations where you have a legal right to be; and (3) justified use of force would be protected from criminal and civil liability.

Congratulations, Kansas!
