House Bill 296, allowing for an apprentice hunting license to become available July 1, is now law. The license, designed to help in recruitment to the sport, will excuse novices from taking a hunter education course when hunting with a regularly licensed, adult mentor. The apprentice license may be purchased for three years, after which a hunter must purchase a regular license, which requires passage of a safety course.
