The latest New Jersey state report shows that through May, there have been 398 reports of damage or nuisance by bears statewide this year. For the same period last year, the number was 234. Bradley M. Campbell, commissioner of the Dept. of Environmental Protection, said the increasing reports of bear sightings may warrant another bear hunt. However, Campbell said, he is delaying a decision until he reviews a bear management plan put together by the state Fish and Game Council.
