For four hours on May 2, senators debated and changed a controversial gun-permitting bill before passing it. They voted that Minnesotans with permits to carry guns in public can`t take their guns into churches, schools or universities without special permission. The Senate Crime Prevention and Public Safety Committee also allowed local governments to ban guns from their buildings and parks, made it illegal for permit holders carrying their guns to have any alcoholic drinks and required permit applicants to submit to fingerprinting.
