No one disputes that Wayne LaPierre knows his audience. The firebrand has doubled the membership of the National Rifle Association in his 14 years as chief executive officer and faced such politically tricky eras as Bill Clinton`s gun control-friendly presidency. These days, LaPierre agrees, times are good for the NRA. The organization of nearly 4 million members enjoys unprecedented political support in a Republican-controlled White House and Congress, and LaPierre claims even Democrats are coming around. "It`s seen as bad politics to be on the wrong side of the Second Amendment," he said in a recent interview.
