Texas - Urge Governor Rick Perry To Sign SB 501!

Governor Rick Perry (R) needs to hear from you! Many city and county officials are lobbying hard for a veto on NRA-backed SB 501 by Sen. Ken Armbrister (D-Victoria) & Rep. Suzanna Hupp (R-Lampasas). SB 501 closes a loophole in the state criminal trespass law that cities and counties were using to circumvent Legislative authority and ban concealed handgun licensees (CHLs) from public property not otherwise off-limits to them under Texas` Right To Carry law.

Please contact the Governor in support of SB 501 by calling the Governor`s Citizen Opinion Hotline at (512) 463-1782 or by email at www.governor.state.tx.us/contact.

The Governor has until June 22 to act on SB 501 and three other NRA-supported measures on his desk. Please encourage him to sign these important bills as well:

  • HB 284 by Rep. Dan Ellis (D-Livingston) exempts possession of a handgun in a recreational vehicle from the unlawful carry provisions of the Penal Code.

  • HB 1704 by Rep. Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) allows new Texas residents to apply for a CHL earlier than currently provided by law and will also allow non-resident Texas CHLs to keep their license even after their home state passes a Right To Carry law.

  • HB 3477 by Rep. Jack Stick (R-Austin) will facilitate more CHL reciprocal agreements between Texas and other states by transferring authority to negotiate such agreements from DPS to the Attorney General`s office.
