Debate Heated On Campaign Finance

The vote on a proposed overhaul of campaign finance laws, which the House starts debating today, will rank among the most contentious and closely watched in months, if not years. Some political insiders, however, say proponents won`t achieve their goals even if the bill passes. The notion of "reforming" money and politics is a vanity, they say, for money always finds a way to penetrate the system and influence policymakers. The House measure, they claim, could make things even worse.
